SIGNPOSTS IN LIFE
‘‘There is a smoke coming out of that house there on the horizon, lets
go and see’’, my friend said. We jumped into our car and raced towards
the building we had seen from a distance.
Indeed thick smoke was billowing out of the roof. The house looked deserted.
There was no time to waste. We barged into the building and into the living
room. The setting was gorgeous. Crystal glasses glistened on a table,
immaculately set for the dinner. The floor was covered with rich oriental
rugs.
‘‘Hello-anybody here?’’ we shouted. No reply. We rushed from one room
to the next and into the kitchen. The noise of the roaring flames above
us was becoming louder. Tiles started falling from the roof. One more
door to open. I pushed it open and gasped. The whole family was sitting
spell-bound in front of their television set, not realizing that the whole
upper floor of their beautiful house was on flame.
Frantically we tried to save what we could, by carrying the valuables
out of the burning house into a nearby shelter. Finally the firemen arrived
and extinguished the flames. We returned home.
What had given me the authority to barge into that strange house? I had
not rang the door bell, But simply entered and started carrying things
out of the door. Why would I have the right to trespass exquisite rooms
and carry expensive rugs with me?
The fact that I new that within the next few minutes everything would
be burned to ashes, gave me the authority Knowing that there lives were
in danger, gave me the right to yank the power cable of the TV set out
the wall and yell: ‘‘Quick, get up, leave your favourite TV programme
and save what you can.’’
In the same way we, as the people of God, Know what the future holds.
God has told us in his word We will live for eternity and we have the
right to tell the people around us. You do have the authority to inform
the people of the impending danger. After all the bible says: if you do
not warn the wicked your blood will be required of you (Ezekiel 3:18)
Lord Jesus, I boldly want to proclaim the gospel to people around me.
